I really really want to like this, as far as hardware goes, it's top notch. The unit itself is very clean and sleek looking, the screen is big and pretty, I love LOVE the touch pad, more so than the ipod's clickwheel, all in all the hardware experience exceeds my expectations. so far this review is 5 stars
the software on the other hand, oh man, you go ahead and download the 133mb file from their site that is supposed to be up to date, except when you go to install it installs another 100mb worth of updates. I don't see why I can't just install the stupid thing then update later if I feel like it. I live in an area where high speed internet isn't an option and I can't exactly move anywhere, so this is horrible, I have to bring my computer all the way into the city to get a friends house with highspeed just so I can use my mp3 player. Another thing is, the (Microsoft) Zune isn't compatible with a Microsoft windows system out of the box, you need to download the software first...what? that makes no sense, because, you see, the (Apple) ipod, the company Microsoft is trying to compete with (destroy), works fine and dandy out of the box without itunes, in fact, it works with pretty much any media program capable of syncing, you don't even need to download itunes if you don't want to. Did I forget that?--The Zune only only only works with the Zune Software period. there is a program called zAlternator that enables you to sync with winamp or whatever, but it first involves opening the zune software and closing it in task manager then starting winamp, every single time. It is also the only mp3 player I've ever owned that isn't capable of being used as a mass storage device, which can be hacked to work easily, unfortunately you can never write to it, so I can't bring it to a friends house and get some things, like pictures or what have you, and throw them up there, its almost as if Microsoft is deliberately trying to not be a contender in this mp3 race by sabotaging out the most basic of features.
Sorry Microsoft, The Zune is awesome but you can't make software for crap, save operating systems. But you got my money in the end so good on you.Get more detail about Zune 120 GB Video MP3 Player (Black).
